HAPPY NEW YEAR BABIES!

Happy New Year!!! I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve and are not too hungover right now. If you had a good 2013, I hope 2014 is just as good but if 2013 wasn't too great, let's make it 100 times better. Be optimistic that 2014 will be your best yet and that all your hopes for the new year will come true. Thank you so much for following me over the past year and I promise you great things will come from Silk & Poppel in 2014.

Much love,
Bec

Welcome to the Dollhouse!

Clutch: Topshop (sold out)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell at Office

Alright kids,

How are you? I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and, unlike me, actually had Boxing Day off and had a good one of those too. I had a lovely Christmas. First I opened my presents at home with momma and then we went to my nana's house for food and even more presents. Her roast dinners are the best! Unfortunately, I've worked every day since Christmas and as of yet have not had the time to post this but I'm super excited to present to you my Christmas day outfit.

I started off the look with a babydoll dress in what I believe is a quintessential Christmas fabric - VELVET. It has an attached sequin collar, which adds a bit of sparkle, and holds a whole load of material that was perfect for hiding my food baby. Yay! I paired it with my new babies. That's right - my daisy cutout Litas have finally arrived and they're perfect.  I finished the look with a clear box clutch, my favouritist new Thomas Sabo charm bracelet (complete with a Thumper charm) and my trusty Cartier watch, all of which are pretty difficult to see. Sorry about that!

And now for my absolute favourite present I was so lucky to receive this Christmas - SHELLIE MAY!

Isn't she a cutie?!

Much love,
Bec

IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!

It's finally here - the most wonderful day of the year! Have a wonderful Christmas and I hope Santa has brought you all of your heart's desires. I love you all!

It seems as though Christmas has come early...

It's Christmas Eve everybody! How very exciting! Just one more sleep kiddies! Well, I felt like my Christmas has come 24 hours early when a short while ago I opened Day 24 on my advent calendar to find this little beauty hiding in the draw…

The Checkerboard Skirt charm by Fifi Lapin…

For those of you who don't recognise this little rabbit (GET OUT FROM UNDER THAT ROCK), Fifi Lapin is, according to Elle, 'the world's most stylish bunny'. Check out the official blog here. Basically, I am her biggest fan as she is a combination of two of my favourite things in the world: fashion + bunnies, of course! This petite charm is around 3cm tall and perfect to pop on the end of a simple gold chain. There's only going to be 100 made and I absolutely adore it. Good job momma!

Much love,
Bec

LIFE UPDATE!

I've recently read somewhere that Manchester is the 6th worst dressed city in the world. That's not a great title to hold to be honest but fear not as in September 2014, yours truly will be off to sort them out. That's right kids, I've just received an unconditional offer to study History of Art at uni of. Excitement doesn't ever start to cover how I feel right now!

That's all - thank you.

Much love,
Bec

The Best of the Rest.

In a previous post (you can find it here) I shared with you the current lust of my life - an amazing yet relatively expensive Christmas jumper from Wildfox. Now, if you are like me and do not have the funds to spend on a jumper that, in reality, is only appropriate to wear for one month of the year, I have been ever so nice (SANTA: I REDEEM MYSELF) and have found the best high street options in the ugly/cute festive jumper category for this season, all of which cost less than £50!

Fashion in Art: Imperial Chinese Porcelain

Art in all its forms has been an undisputed force for many years. Arguably the most influential of these in modern day society is fashion, an industry worth over £21 billion in the UK alone, and its incredible to see how the influential art/artists of the past have inspired today's fashion world.

'Imperial Chinese Porcelain from the Baur collections in Geneva'

The Art

Chinese ceramics is possibly one of the most significant and most recognisable forms of Chinese Art. China is richly endowed with the raw materials used to create ceramics. The making of ceramic pieces date back to the Palaeolithic era and there has been great development since. The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) saw innovation in the manufacture of ceramics, with new techniques being used to create new shapes and designs. During the reign of Xuande in the 1400s, technical refinement allowed for the use of cobalt in the decoration of the porcelain. The porcelain of the Xuande reign is considered the finest (and is certainly the most well known) output of this time.

Today

Today, many home and decor companies try to recreate the beauty of antique Chinese porcelain. My personal favourites are these cute rice bowls found at Urban Outfitters.

& Fashion…

Let's not forget about what we're really here for: the clothes! Now, I'm not psychic or anything but judging by the amount of Chinese inspired items online, I've got a feeling that the print might inspire a new trend for Spring/Summer 2014…
